The crowd was firmly in the corner of the local fighters, as Bennett, Horne, and Cornwell garnered the majority of the cheers. “The Samurai” proved once again that he deserves the hot-shot status that he has gained, and he appears ready to move on to the professional ranks. But he is in no hurry. “I’m only 19; there’s plenty of time for me to go pro,” he told the post-fight interviewer after checking on Karmolinski following his TKO victory. Known for his jiu-jitsu skills, “The Samurai” opted to put his opponent away with strikes. In short, he showcased a well-rounded fight game. Regardless of when Bennett decides to make the jump, he has a bright future ahead of him.
After starting his pro career with six straight wins, Mojo Horne had lost his last two bouts. In short, he was in desperate need of a victory. Standing in his way was Barkdull, a tough opponent with good skills. But Horne’s hunger was evident, and he used his ground game to stifle his opponent and gain the rear-naked choke submission victory. Clearly relieved after his victory, Horne thanked God and exulted in his huge win. He also had a message for MMA Big Show Owner/Promoter Jason Appleton: “Put me on the January 9th MMA Big Show event.” Whenever his next challenge does come, Mojo showed he will be ready.
Karmolinski and Barkdull were extremely classy in defeat, but Browning lived up to his “Lunatic” moniker in his post-fight interview. While respectful of his opponent and the promotion, Browning made offensive statements in the interview, which did nothing but increase the boos he had been receiving from the moment he appeared at “ONSLAUGHT.” Browning exhibited great ground skills, and was able to neutralize everything Cornwell threw at him. The boos of the crowd seemed to give him motivation, and “The Lunatic” responded with an entertaining performance. Where he goes from here is anyone’s guess, but there will be lots of eyes on the young fighter, no matter what.
