MMA Big Show lit up the Midwest last night at the Belterra Casino in Indiana as its “Conviction” card more than lived up to its reputation. The show was explosive and action-packed as none, equals zero of the bouts that were scheduled went to the score cards. It was a night of knockouts and submissions indeed with only two fights going past the first round. I was on site in the press box to cover the event. In the main event, RFL champion John Troyer from Louisville, Kentucky went up against MMA Big Show’s undefeated champion Mojo Horne for Mojo’s middleweight belt. Mojo was hoping to defend home court as fans came and packed the Belterra Casino’s events center to support their champ. Troyer, who people described as Kentucky’s version of Mojo Horne went for a takedown early and was able to mount and land a couple of glazing shots. Mojo was able to get back on his feet and landed a few good hits while he had Troyer on the clinch. The fight stalled for a little bit as both men where trying to transition. Mojo backed Troyer to cage while holding on to his right leg looking to take him down or go for a body slam. As Troyer reversed Mojo on the cage he was also able to get a clinch on the champ and landed stinging knees to head. Mojo fired back with a nice head kick. Both men then start swinging for the fences in a classic display of sheer determination and will from two determined gladiators and had the crowd on their feet. Troyer was getting the better of the exchange however as Mojo was backing down seemingly dazed by the hits he took until he gets rocked and dropped by another huge left knee to the head from a clinch. Troyer kept pounding Mojo with right hands on the ground until the referee stopped the fight. |
